Washington Post editorial board member Jeffrey Goldberg, who also happens to be a member of the National Security Council, told Al Jazeera that “our future depends on it” for the U.S. and for the rest of the world.
“I have two visions for the world,” Goldberg said.
“One is that there will be two worlds, and one is that we will have one world.
The other is that, if you go back to the 1960s, there was a period of time where there was an enormous convergence of views, and then things just got kind of swept away.””
It’s not really a question of whether there will ever be another world.
There will be another era of peace, but it’s a question as to whether we are going to have another world.”
While Goldberg believes there will never be another planet, he thinks it is very likely that we are entering another era, similar to the last.
“We are in an era of the last century,” he said.
Goldberg said that in his opinion, “the world will go through this ‘Golden Age’ in which it will be the greatest generation of people, and they will make a huge impact on the world”.
“And so, there will not be a single generation, but there will have been a huge wave of people that are going through their peak.
And we are in that era of this generation,” he added.
He believes that “the future is going to be more than just a continuation of the past” and predicts that there is a “growing sentiment among people to take action”.
He believes this “might be a bit of a shift in the way people think” because “people are more aware that it’s not the end of the story.
There is more work to do.”
He also believes that we can “understand that we don’t have to wait for the next generation” and that we “can start to be aware that we need to change our course”.
“If we just focus on that, we are just not going to change,” he concluded.
